O'Traveller Mine

The O'Traveller Mine as it is known today was a small prospect dug into the mountain back in the 1780's. The mineral sought is purportedly gold or silver, but neither was found. The mine has an interesting history, serving as a watering hole for travellers and residents. The spring was pure and ran continuously until in 1943 when a sewer line broke and contaminated the spring. In 1976 the old poem which hung above the mine was replaced by Louise Windich.
