The Haggerty Farm Explorations was a series of diggings conducted in Allamuchy Twp, NJ. Not much is known, but a report from 1949 indicated the mine had a 35 foot sloped shaft to water. This intrigued us and on Saturday October 20th, 2006, we set out in search of the mine. We found the shaft, however the tailings pile was missing, and it appears that it was all dumped back into the shaft. The shaft now is filled to the brim with rocks but is allot more interesting then it might seem.

On the way back we also stopped to look at the Waterloo Mine. Being adventurous, we decided to detour through a ravine  back to our vehicles. During one particular area, a few trees had follen and blocked our path. This necessitated that we walk over the trees then jump back down.

Thats when it happened..

I managed to tear up my ankle. I received a grade 3 sydesmotic ankle sprain, which means I tore a few ligaments in my ankle. As of this writing, I still cannot walk. Luckily there were no broken bones, but the injury was very unaccommodating as we are expecting our third child anyday, and now my wife needs to take care of me!

Anyway, We should be back into action soon, and look forward to hobbling along the woods in a few short weeks.

This is the path off of the main route to the mine..
