Walking the grounds of a former 18th century mining operation is akin to opening a book to the past. Tunnels are collapsed and shafts filled with water as nature reclaims and reworks man's disturbances. It is hard to visualize the operations while you walk through these remote areas. Once thriving operations are now dense forests filled with wildlife, and the sound of nature has replaced the thundering of black powder.
The Mines slowly withdraw back into the earth, taking along their secrets and memories. Sometimes if you listen carefully, you may still be able to hear the miners hammering down below.
